SHOW DAY 2011

What a fantastic day the Livestock Section had.

The early morning gloom and rain disappeared giving ideal showday conditions.

The quality of livestock on display was outstanding. Cattle entries were depleted through the spectre of TB but the animals on show were superb.

Jack Watts, showing for the first time at Usk, virtually swept the board in the Holstein Friesian classes with Robert & Stephen Jones taking the honours in the Mixed Dairy Section.

Jackie Evans won in the Native Beef Breeding with Tim & Kitty  taking overall Breeding Championship with their Heifer. Steve Pegington had the Best Homebred in this section.

In the Butchers' Cattle Tim & Kitty Bodily took the Championship with their outstanding Heifer with George & Colin Phillips wining the John Emery Trophy for the most points in the Section.

The Pig Section was incredibly well supported with six sows with piglets providing entertainment all day. Martin Trumper won the Championship for which a splendid Cup has been donated by Bob & Doreen Stevenson.

The sheep were out in force with great increase in the Welsh Breeds and Commercial classes. However it was the Suffolk Ewe of Roger & Glenys Morgan which took overall Supreme Champion with Noel Porter's Ewe  in Reserve. The Groucott Family took the Best Male Sheep in Show award. David Barrell with his almost identical Badger Face Ewe Lambs took the Ewe Lambs Pairs Champion with Nick & Caroline Turner the Commercial Section.

Lily Pearce was the Best Calf Young Handler with Ellie Morgan retaining the Lamb Handler Trophy!

Another very successful year!
