The South Wales Rabbit Club is once again delighted to play host to the rabbit section at the Usk Agricultural Show this year. This club has been running since the early 1970’s, and holds four shows a year, two of which are agricultural shows; one at Chepstow and one here at Usk. The other two shows are held at the Castleton Institute, Castleton, in April and December and any member of the public is welcome to come along and enjoy the day with us.

All of the rabbits exhibited today are pure bred, to a set standard. These standards are written by the breed clubs and are held in office by the British Rabbit Council (www.thebrc.org) who is the overseeing authority for all rabbit shows. There are four sections in the rabbit show; Fancy, Lops, Fur and Rex. Each rabbit is judged in its own breed class, before coming together to meet in the challenge class to find the best of its section. The best of each section then meet to find the eventual Best In Show winner.

Judging in the rabbit section begins at 10:30am and continues through to about 4:00pm. Our judges this year have travelled from Bristol, Swindon, Cardiff, and Luton. The judges are looking at the exhibits type (shape), their colour, their coat and their markings, and their general well-being and condition. The judge will award points for each of these areas, and the rabbit with the highest number of points, thus being closest to its breed standard, will win the class. Awards are given to three places. We will be presenting all awards in the section around 5:00pm.

Should you have any questions then please feel free to stop and ask the section secretary, the BRC stand representative, or a District Advisor, as we are all only too pleased to help.
I hope you enjoy your day at this fabulous show!
